Rep. Dave Obey BIO:
· Serving in 19th full term in U.S. House. First elected in 1969 at age 30 in a special election to succeed Melvin R. Laird, President Richard Nixon’s first defense secretary.
· Represents Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District which includes Wausau, Superior, and Stevens Point

Appropriations chairman (also chairman of its Labor-Health & Human Services-Education subcmte., Select Intelligence Oversight)

· Wisconsin Assembly, 1963-69. First elected to state House at age 24 & served for three terms representing Marathon County. He rose to the position of Assistant Democratic Leader.
· University of Wisconsin campus coordinator for 1960 presidential candidate Hubert H. Humphrey.

Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison, B.S. 1960 (political science), M.A. 1962 (political science). Did his graduate work in Soviet politics under a National Defense Education Act three-year scholarship.

Born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Grew up in a Republican family in Wausau, Wisconsin. Married to Joan Obey. They have 2 sons.

Dave Obey discusses his autobiography, "Raising Hell for Justice: The Washington Battles of a Heartland Progressive" on his early years in the Wisconsin Legislature to his rise as U.S. House Appropriations Committee chairman. The Congressman was first elected to the House in 1969 (currently serving in his 19th full term) and represents Wisconsin's 7th district. His book will be published by University of Wisconsin Press and officially released next month.
