Info: Our guest is author and co-host of National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition, Steve Inskeep. He discusses his book titled “Instant City: Life and Death in Karachi,” which was recently released in paperback. He chose Karachi because he feels the city best exemplifies how a town grows and changes when the population rapidly escalates. He shares the history of Pakistan’s religions and governments, and how they impacted the planning of this city since 1947. Inskeep also talks about a recent trip he made with some NPR staff members through Tunisia, Libya and Egypt. He packaged a series of reports for the “Morning Edition” program and titled them the “Revolutionary Road Trip.” He comments on audio clips of his radio series as he reports on the new government in Tunisia, controversy over alcohol in Carthage, and a surprise discovery of young children playing golf in the desert of Benghazi, Libya. Inskeep talks about his early days in broadcasting as well as the diversity of employees at National Public Radio.
