Info: Our guest is Derek Leebaert, author of “Magic and Mayhem: The Delusions of American Foreign Policy from Korea to Afghanistan.” In this program Leebaert will discuss the problems in American foreign policy, including those who shape it. He will also discuss what he calls "The six illusions of foreign policy" listed in his book. They include: Every foreign policy problem has to be acted upon. Every foreign policy problem has to be decided with a sense of urgency. Some Foreign policy advisors have "star" or "celebrity" status as experts. Leebaert has been a professor at Georgetown for 15 years and is currently a partner at MAP AG, a Swiss management consulting firm. He is author of "To Dare and to Conquer: Achilles to Al Queda" (2006) and "The Fifty-Year Wound: How America’s Cold War Victory Shapes Our World" (2002).
