Info: Pulitzer Prize winning author Stacy Schiff discusses her latest biography, Cleopatra, recently released in paperback. Schiff talks about growing up in western Massachusetts and her early days as an editor with publishers Simon and Schuster and Viking Press. She tells the story of her 2006 article in The New Yorker magazine which led to the discovery that a Wikipedia administrator had falsified his school and job experiences. She expresses caution against relying on Wikipedia’s accuracy. Schiff recounts her experiences in researching and writing all of her biographies, and her reliance upon archival research and original documentation as her most effective tools. She cites her favorite biographers and speaks about her own style of writing out all her texts in mechanical pencil. In addition, she talks about her 2010 article in The New York Times entitled, “Cleopatra’s Guide to Good Governance,” which she describes as a primer for modern day Washington.
